General Motors Canada finished what it started.
After the automaker’s rise in electric vehicle sales took it to the top spot among EV sellers for the first half of 2025, GM Canada announced it was No. 1 for the full year, according to S&P Global Mobility’s data on Canadian new vehicle total registrations.
S&P’s numbers showed GM brands with more than 25,000 total EV registrations for the year for a 21.2% share of Canada’s EV market — down slightly from the 23.2% share reported at mid-year.
In a news release, the manufacturer said its Cadillac brand led the luxury segment with a 32.1% market share and Canada’s two most-registered luxury EV models in the OPTIQ EV and LYRIQ EV 2. Chevrolet’s Equinox EV was the nation’s second-most registered electric vehicle in 2025, GM said, as the Chevy brand held 13.3% of the EV market to rank third overall.
GM said its lineup of 13 EV models among its Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC brands represents “largest and most diverse electric vehicle portfolio in Canada” with options in the value, luxury and truck segments. The company said its 2027 Chevrolet Bolt, set to arrive in dealerships this year, is expected to be one of Canada’s most affordable EVs, with a estimated range of up to 422 kilometers.
“Canadians want choice and GM Canada is delivering,” vice president of sales, service and marketing Shane Peever said. “We’re Canada’s EV market leader, and in 2025 we also led the overall industry for the third year in a row, capturing 15.5% market share with nearly 300,000 vehicles sold.
