Mercedes-Benz is bringing its electric vehicle charging infrastructure to Canada.
Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging began that process by opening three Canadian locations, the first of eight high-power charging hubs set to come online in the Vancouver metro area over the next few months.
The new hubs in Abbotsford, Pitt Meadows and Tsawwassen feature Mercedes’ four-cable charging system, designed to eliminate one of the most common problems for EV drivers using public charging: compatibility between the vehicle and the charger.
“With our new design, every stall supports every vehicle — no adapters, no barriers — reflecting our commitment to simplicity, reliability and access for all,” said Heiko Schmidt, president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz HPC North America and Mercedes-Benz HPC Canada. “It’s an important step in building the infrastructure EV ownership demands while strengthening the public charging network in Canada.”
The chargers are the first in Canada for Mercedes, which operates more than 650 charging stalls in the U.S. They’ll be placed at retail and destination locations, four of which are being developed in collaboration with commercial property management firm BGO Properties.
The locations include Abbotsford Power Centre, Sunwood Square in Coquitlam, Woodgrove Shopping Center in Nanaimo, Penticton Lakeside Resort, Meadowvale Shopping Center in Pitt Meadows, Squamish Station, Panorama Village in Surrey, and Tsawwassen Mills.

Head of BGO properties Michelle Brown said the high-speed chargers will “enhance the experience for tenants and EV drivers with a convenient, innovative amenity that supports more sustainable travel.”
To alleviate the compatibility issue, Mercedes is using Alpitronic HYC 400 chargers equipped with four cables at every stall, offering connectors for both Combined Charging System 1 (CCS-1) and North American Charging Standard (NACS), allowing every station to serve every vehicle, regardless of make or model.
In a news release, Mercedes said the chargers deliver charging rates up to 400 kW, enabling capable EVs to add 303 kilometers of range in as little as 10 minutes.
Alpitronic Americas president Mike Doucleff called the partnership with Mercedes “a significant milestone,” adding, “The advanced capabilities and four-cable design perfectly align with Mercedes-Benz’s vision of creating a truly inclusive charging network.”
Mercedes said Plug and Charge will be available for supported vehicles to automatically initiate charging and billing just by plugging in, with no card or tapping required.
“Canada’s EV drivers deserve charging infrastructure that matches their expectations.” Mercedes-Benz Canada CEO Andreas Tetzloff said. “This network extends the Mercedes-Benz experience, ensuring that whether you’re driving one of our EV models or any other EV, you have access to premium infrastructure that makes electric vehicle ownership seamless.”
