The decline in wholesale vehicle values picked up speed in Canada last week, particularly for car segments, according to the latest Market Insights report from Canadian Black Book.

And the decreases in price were felt across the board.

Overall, the market was down 0.40% last week, compared to a 0.27% price decline the week before. The average for the same week of 2017-2019 was a 0.37% drop.

The decline in car segment prices increased from 0.26% to 0.50%, CBB said, while trucks and SUVs were down 0.33% last week, compared to a 0.28% drop the prior week.

All car and truck/SUV segments declined in price last week. The greatest drop among car segments was for midsize cars (down 1.01%), while the biggest decline among trucks/SUVs was subcompact crossovers (down 0.96%).

Approximately three-fifths of all segments had declines of more than $100, CBB said.

“Auction inventory continues to hold at high levels, though upstream channels continue to receive priority access. Demand for high-quality vehicles remains strong on both sides of the border,” CBB said in the report.
