Nordis Technologies on Tuesday launched rich communication services (RCS) messaging within its Expresso platform in a move meant to provide businesses with a “more engaging, trusted way” to connect with customers.

The provider of omnichannel customer communications management and payments technology solutions highlighted messages sent through Expresso’s new RCS capability can arrive as branded communications, displaying a business name, logo, brand colors and verification badge in supported messaging services.

Nordis Technologies said businesses can also add rich cards, high-definition images and video.

Delivering an interactive experience, RCS messaging can include action buttons that can help customers quickly complete important next steps, such as making a payment or viewing a document, directly within the conversation.

“Business texting has been effective because it is immediate, but the experience itself has remained fairly limited,” said Christiane Freese-Jones, vice president of product innovation at Nordis Technologies. “RCS gives us the ability to make that interaction more engaging from the start.

“Customers can see who is contacting them, understand what they need to do and take action all within a familiar channel they use every day,” Freese-Jones continued.

The new RCS capability, delivered through a technology partnership with SBT, becomes part of the same omnichannel workflow Nordis clients already use for print, email, SMS and MMS.

Businesses can choose the right channel for each communication while maintaining a consistent customer experience, and messages can automatically fall back to MMS or SMS when RCS is not supported on a customer’s device.

Nordis Technologies pointed out that RCS also strengthens trust at a time when consumers are increasingly cautious about unfamiliar texts and links.

The company explained verified sender profiles and recognizable brand elements can help customers identify legitimate communications, while sensitive information can remain within existing secure portals and workflows.

“The real value of RCS is not that a text can look better. It is that a communication can do more,” Nordis Technologies president and COO Nicole Miller said. “When a customer can recognize the sender, understand the message and act immediately, businesses remove steps that often cause delay or abandonment.

“Adding RCS to Expresso advances our strategy of making every customer communication more connected, useful and productive,” Miller went on to say.
