ARLINGTON, Texas -

The National Automobile Dealers Association is finalizing plans for its upcoming National Policy Conference; its annual event in Washington, D.C.

Highlighted by a keynote presentation with Oliver North and a fireside chat with the director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the three-day event beginning on Sept. 23 includes updates from federal regulators, a special awards dinner on Capitol Hill as well as NIADA members meeting with more than 120 members of Congress and their staffs.

“NIADA members have for years laid the groundwork at past National Policy Conferences for major legislative victories including the striking the CFPB’s ill-advised arbitration rule, maintaining tax deductibility of interest expenses associated with floorplans, and the defeat of overbroad recall legislation,” NIADA senior vice president of legal and government affairs Shaun Petersen said.

“These major victories would not have occurred without dealers coming to Washington and making your voice heard,” he went on to say.

Last year’s conference featured more than 200 attendees and a record 120-plus meetings with members of the Senate and House of Representatives or their legislative staff.

“Since we rebooted this event in 2013, we’ve seen attendance double and we’ve seen our footprint on Capitol Hill grow from 30 congressional meetings to more than 120 this year,” NIADA chief executive officer Steve Jordan said after last year’s event.

“But I think the true measure of success is going back to the same congressional offices we visited in years past and having them remember us, know our issues, understand the things that are important to us and be able to pick up the conversation right where we left off,” Jordan continued.

Along with those meetings, NIADA also is welcoming representatives from the Federal Trade Commission and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to speak during the event.

Also on the docket is North, a combat decorated U.S. Marine, No. 1 best-selling author, founder of a small business and holder of three U.S. patents. For 17 years, North also was a syndicated columnist and host of “War Stories” on Fox News Channel.
