April 15 was Tuesday. As buy-here, pay-here dealerships know, that was the deadline for individuals to file their federal and state tax returns.
While the database hosted by the Internal Revenue Service has a bit of a reporting lag, the latest update available through April 4 showed steady year-over-year trends connected with the total amount of returns filed and the average refund individuals received.
The IRS indicated it had received 101,422,000 returns and processed 100,324,000 returns by April 4. Both figures were steady compared to the same point in last year’s filing period.
The agency has doled out $211.080 billion in refunds, which is up 5.0% year-over-year.
A total of 67,745,000 individuals received a federal refund through April 4, according to the IRS.
The average refund has come in at $3,116, which is 3.5% higher than a year ago.
