For agents, 50 states can mean as many as 50 different sets of regulations to follow when repossessing vehicles.

To help them handle those potential complexities, the American Recovery Association launched what it called a “groundbreaking” resource on Wednesday. Called the 50-State Solution, it’s a comprehensive digital resource that provides updates about repossession laws and regulations for every U.S. state — all included as part of ARA membership.

With this new tool, recovery agency owners and their teams can access critical information on licensing, bonding, notifications, personal property handling, and more — streamlining operations and helping to ensure legal compliance across all 50 states.

“This is a game-changer for ARA members,” ARA president Vaughn Clemmons said. “Our members now have a reliable and current source for every state’s requirements, saving them countless hours of research and significantly reducing legal risk. ARA’s Home Office team worked tirelessly to create this valuable resource for our members.”

Other key features of the 50-State Solution include:

—Comprehensive coverage: Includes statutes and regulations governing repossession practices in every state.

—Real-time updates: Synced with LexisNexis to deliver timely updates on legal changes.

—User-friendly access: Available 24/7 through the ARA member portal.

—Built-in value: Included at no additional cost for all ARA member repossession agencies.

Whether it’s understanding why Kansas requires a motor carrier permit instead of a repossession license or knowing Alabama’s restriction on returning to the same property for a second repossession attempt, ARA said the 50-State Solution “arms members with the facts they need — instantly.”

And expanded access is coming soon.

In addition to its core availability for member agencies, ARA is planning tiered access for other industry stakeholders:

—ARA client compliance program users: Forwarders and lenders currently using ARA’s compliance vetting services will be offered access at a preferred rate.

—Non-client forwarders and lenders: Full-rate subscriptions will be available 60–90 days from launch.

—Future expansion: ARA is exploring future access options for dealerships through its current partners.

“We’ve created a layered roll-out strategy,” Clemmons said. “If you’re an ARA client in our compliance monitoring program, this will be available to you. If you’re not part of our ecosystem, you’ll need to wait until a later phase.”
