Law firms are often key cogs in mergers and acquisitions coming to fruition. In this case, law firms are the ones making the transaction.

In what leadership called “a natural fit,” Weltman, Weinberg & Reis Co. on Wednesday announced the acquisition of Nathan & Nathan, a law firm founded in 1992 by John Nathan.

The acquisition significantly expands Weltman’s footprint throughout the Southeast, adding established operations and expertise in Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and Tennessee.

The addition of Nathan & Nathan strengthens Weltman’s ability to provide clients with seamless legal representation and recovery solutions across an even broader geographic area.

And according to Weltman, the acquisition represents the coming together of two firms that share a longstanding personal and professional relationship, as well as a commitment to client service, integrity, and culture.

“This partnership is a natural fit,” Weltman managing partner Chuck Pona said in a news release. “John and I have known each other for many years, and there has always been a tremendous amount of mutual respect between our firms.

“Nathan & Nathan has built an outstanding reputation over the past three decades, and their values align closely with ours. We are thrilled to welcome John and his team to the Weltman family and look forward to building on our shared success,” Pona continued.

Nathan expressed his enthusiasm for the future, stating, “As we considered the next chapter for Nathan & Nathan, it was important to align with a firm that shares our dedication to client service, values its people, and reflects the culture we have built over the past 34 years. Weltman has long been recognized as a leader in our industry, with a reputation for excellence, strong leadership, and an unwavering commitment to its clients.

“This partnership presents an exciting opportunity for our attorneys, staff, and clients, and I look forward to all that we will accomplish together,” Nathan added.

The acquisition further enhances Weltman’s national capabilities while preserving the local relationships and expertise that have been instrumental to Nathan & Nathan’s success.

Leadership insisted clients of both firms will continue to receive the exceptional service and trusted counsel they have come to expect.

“This is about more than expanding our geographic reach,” Pona said. “It’s about bringing together great people, great cultures, and a shared vision for the future. We believe our clients, employees, and communities will benefit tremendously from this partnership for many years to come.”
