The average age of vehicles has reached a record high, as consumers keep their rides longer.
All while ownership and operating costs soar.
So, Hertz Car Sales has responded, launching 100K Mile Protection.
The protection includes a three-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty on eligible vehicles at no additional charge.
Eligible vehicles are “generally defined” as vehicles five model years old or newer with less than 75,000 miles at time of sale.
Coverage includes specified components of the engine, transmission/transaxle and drive axle.

There is a $100 deductible for each covered repair visit.
Coverage begins on the effective date in the customer’s warranty agreement. It lasts for 36 months or until 100,000 total odometer miles, whichever is first. The warranty is non-transferable.
On certain covered breakdowns, potential additional complimentary benefits include rental car reimbursement, towing reimbursement and travel breakdown reimbursement, subject to terms, limits and eligibility.
“Consumers are keeping vehicles longer and placing greater importance on reliability, protection and long-term value,” Hertz Car Sales executive vice president Jeff Adams said in a news release.
“100K Mile Protection reflects our commitment to helping customers buy and own their next vehicle with greater confidence. Combined with our large selection of single-owner, near-new vehicles that are typically one year old or newer, it gives customers added peace of mind from the day they purchase and throughout their ownership journey.”
Citing industry data, Hertz Car Sales said the average car on the road in the U.S is 12.8 years, a record high.
Meanwhile, AAA data indicates it costs more than $11,500 a year to own and operate a vehicle, Hertz Car Sales said.
The company’s own research indicates that 79% of buyers place a high importance of maintenance costs when buying a car.
