STAMFORD, Conn. –
Though eclipsing year-ago levels by more than 3 percent, wholesale values fell sequentially for the second straight month, according to RVI Group, which said this week that June’s used prices were off 0.8 percent from May.
This follows a 0.9 percent month-over-month decrease in May. Before that drop-off, used values had increased sequentially in each of the preceeding three months.
As for the most recent month, the RVI Used Car Price Index for June came in at 1.452, down 0.8 percent from May and up 3.1 percent from June 2011.
Breaking it down by segment, it was a pair of luxury categories leading the way; luxury full-size sedans (up 4.8 percent) and luxury coupes (up 3.8 percent) had the highest month-over-month price gains in June, RVI noted.
Conversely, the segments whose prices dipped the most from May were full-size SUVs and compacts. Used values for both these categories dropped 2.3 percent month-over-month, officials pointed out.
