Mazda & Audi Continue to Stand Out in Canadian CPO Sales

As September’s certified pre-owned results for Canada come rolling in, it's apparent this past month was a strong one, once again, for European automakers. And one relative newcomer to the CPO market had a stand-out performance, as well.
Mazda Canada sold 405 certified units in September, continuing to show strength in its CPO program’s second year. Last month’s sales brought the automaker to a total of 4,041 CPO purchases this year.
In September 2012, the company sold 303 CPO rides.
Bryan Leaitch, manager of certified pre-owned at Mazda Canada, told Auto Remarketing Canada that much of this year’s success rides on dealer adoption and enthusiasm for the program.
“We’ve seen increased dealership profitability and engagement in our program over the last few months, which has resulted in improving sales year-over-year,” Leaitch said. “Ensuring our dealers are consistently communicating our brand promises to each and every customer helps us delivery confidence and value in every sale.”
And once again, one European automaker continues to show strength in CPO sales numbers as fall gets underway.
Audi Canada sold 430 CPO units, marking a spike of 40.1 percent over September 2012’s 307 sales.
Year-to-date this brings Audi’s total CPO sales to 3,884, resulting in a 20.7 percent increase over the same period last year when the company sold 3,218 CPO vehicles.
Jonathan Breton, manager of certified pre-owned and corporate sales at Audi Canada, chalked September’s numbers up to “another tremendous month for us and our dealers.”
Over at Volvo Cars of Canada, the numbers remained flat for September, but the company is still seeing double-digit year-to-date highs over 2012.
In September, the company sold 95 CPO cars, exactly the same number as in September 2012.
Year-to-date, it has sold 1,109 CPO rides — 15.2 percent better than the same period of 2012.
On the other hand, Volkswagen, who has experienced upswings in CPO sales for most of 2013, saw a slight decline this past month with 1,228 CPO sales. This is down from 1,281 sold in September 2012.
That said, the OEM’s year-to-date CPO sales numbers are still up from 2012 rates.
Year-to-date, the company has sold 11,288 CPO vehicles, up from 10,560 sold during the same period of 2012.
Moving on to highlight one Japanese automaker, Toyota Canada is continuing to see slight declines in CPO sales, selling 1,690 CPO vehicles last month. This number is down from 2,011 sold during September 2012.
Year-to-date, the company has sold 17,457 vehicles, down from 19,348 during the same period of 2012.
