When it comes to selling cars, trust is an enormous factor.

Autotrader received an important endorsement in that category this week, when it was named America’s most reputable brand in auto retail by Morning Consult.

The Cox Automotive brand earned a score of 70.7 in Morning Consult’s Reputation Score to top the category. Morning Consult said the score, which was introduced in its 2025 Most Trusted Brands report, is based on more than 80 million global survey interviews, providing brand reputation data for more than 5,000 companies worldwide, and is designed to help companies understand how they’re perceived on key components such as trust in real time.

In a news release, Autotrader said the recognition illustrates its position as a trusted destination for car shoppers and dealers nationwide.

“Trust has always played a central role in the car-buying journey, especially in a category where the investment is financially significant and the process is complex,” Cox Automotive senior vice president of consumer solutions Jessica Stafford said. “Autotrader’s ability to meet those needs at scale is what sets it apart.

“This recognition reflects our longstanding focus on transparency, innovation and helping consumers, dealers and sellers connect with greater confidence.”

Other companies cited as most reputable in the auto industry include AutoZone for automotive service, parts and repair, Toyota (automotive companies and makes), Enterprise Rent-a-Car (car rentals), and Uber (ride sharing).

Autotrader said expectations for trust and transparency are rising in auto retail, making third-party platforms “a critical part of the car-buying process.” The company touted its verified dealer listings, upfront pricing tools, vehicle history reports and user reviews as helping shoppers make informed decisions and helping dealers connect with more confident, higher-intent buyers.

“The brands that rise to the top of our rankings are those that have built real equity with consumers over time — through consistency, transparency and meaningful customer experiences,” Morning Consult chief growth officer Jeff Cartwright said. “Autotrader’s ranking reflects the trust it has earned by helping car buyers feel informed, supported and confident throughout their journey.”
