Roughly two weeks after announcing it had added used and certified pre-owned vehicles from dealers to the platform, Amazon Autos has expanded further into the used-car space.
Hertz Car Sales said Wednesday it has joined the platform, a move that brings thousands of used vehicles from Hertz to Amazon Autos.
Hertz Car Sales is the first fleet dealer to partner with Amazon Autos.
The auto rental giant said the partnership with Amazon Autos is a “significant step in Hertz’s broader transformation strategy, which includes forging innovative technology partnerships to provide a more seamless customer experience.”
For instance, Hertz Car Sales said Thursday that it has expanded its Hertz Rent2Buy program to more than 100 cities across the U.S.
The program is designed to provide consumers with “an extended test drive” on used vehicles from Hertz, with the “try before you buy” approach.
As for the latest move, Hertz Car Sales executive vice president Jeff Adams said in a release, “Our goal is to reimagine the car-buying experience and meet customers where they are – whether online or in person — with convenience, confidence and scale.
“Amazon Autos is the ideal partner to help us deliver on this as customers can shop our expansive inventory of high-quality used cars on the same trusted marketplace where millions shop every day,” Adams said.
The partnership with Hertz Car Sales will broaden the used-car selection on Amazon Autos to include brands like Ford, Toyota, Toyota, Chevrolet, Nissan and others.
When it announced the addition of used and CPO vehicles to the platform on Aug. 4, Amazon Autos said it would be starting with Hyundai dealers, with plans to add other dealerships, and initially launching in Los Angeles.
The Hertz Car Sales-Amazon Autos partnership is launching in Dallas, Houston, LA and Seattle. The companies plan to bring this program to all of the 45 Hertz Car Sales locations in the U.S.
Consumers can browse used-car listings from Hertz Car Sales on Amazon Autos then finance and complete the purchase through the platform. Then the shopper picks up the vehicle from a Hertz Car Sales location.
“We’re excited for Hertz Car Sales to join the hundreds of franchised dealers in our store, bringing thousands of additional vehicles for customers to choose from,” said Fan Jin, global head of Amazon Autos, in a news release. “This collaboration allows us to offer an expanded selection of well-maintained vehicles from more dealerships across the country, while maintaining the simplicity that customers expect from Amazon.”
Hertz Car Sales vehicles purchased on the Amazon Autos platform included a 12-month/12,000-mile limited powertrain, 24-hour roadside assistance, and a seven-day/250-mile buy-back guarantee.
The platform offers flexing financing options through various lenders, detailed vehicle history and condition reports and an online purchase process designed to be seamless via e-signature and pickup scheduling.
Hertz Certified vehicles include a 115-point inspection.
In addition to being among the largest vehicle rental companies in the world, Hertz is among the largest used-car dealers. It sells thousands of pre-owned cars a year.
