Cox Automotive has made another acquisition in the wholesale auto space — and this time, it’s in the inspections segment.

Three weeks after closing its purchase of Bel Air Auto Auction and Tallahassee Auto Auction, Cox Automotive said Monday afternoon it has obtained full ownership of Alliance Inspection Management (AiM).

Cox had previously owned 50% of AiM for close to 10 years, with Nissan Motor Acceptance Corp. owning the other half. With this deal, which has closed, Cox Automotive purchased the remaining half owned by NMAC.

AiM provides vehicle inspection services and has long been the wholesale inspection partner of Cox’s Manheim auto auction chain.

“This is another powerful step in our journey toward reimagining how buyers and sellers connect in today’s wholesale automotive marketplace,” said Grace Huang, president of Inventory Solutions at Cox Automotive, in a news release.

“By fully integrating AiM’s talent and technology into the Manheim Marketplace, we’re making it easier than ever for clients to transact confidently — whether in lane, online, onsite or offsite.”

The move to acquire full ownership of AiM allows Manheim to expand its offsite presence, with additional capabilities, boots on ground and an extended reach, the company said.

It also enhances the auction company’s off-lease inspections services on the commercial client side and provides additional support for dealers, the company said. The move gives Manheim about 300 additional teams visiting dealerships throughout the U.S.

Roughly 700 AiM employees will join Cox Automotive.

“We’re building the marketplace of the future — one that’s smarter, more connected and more convenient for everyone,” said Joe Kichler, senior vice president of digital and supply chain at Cox Automotive. “Strengthening our workforce and integrating new technologies means clients can expect even greater consistency, reliability and transparency — cornerstones of the Manheim and Cox Automotive legacy. We welcome all our new team members as we take this exciting next step together.”
