According to iSeeCars’ analysis, the average vehicle on the road has just a 4.8% chance of making it to 250,000 miles.

But not all vehicles are average.

The automotive search engine and research website has released its latest study to determine the longest-lasting vehicles on the market, a list topped by four Toyotas that all boast at least a 30% probability of reaching the quarter-million-mile mark.

The Sequoia full-size SUV leads all vehicles, coming up just short of 40% at 39.1% — more than eight times the industry average. It’s followed by the 4Runner (32.9%), Highlander Hybrid (31%) and Tundra pickup truck (30%).

The rest of the top 10 includes the Lexus IS (27.5%), Toyota Tacoma (25.3%), Toyota Avalon (18.9%), Lexus GX (18.3%), Lexus RX hybrid (17%) and Honda Ridgeline (14.7%).

The percentages were calculated from iSeeCars’ analysis of more than 174 million vehicles, using average odometer readings for each model at each yearly age to develop a model estimating the probability that vehicle would survive to various mileage thresholds.

“The cost of today’s vehicles makes their lifespan more important than ever for value-oriented shoppers,” iSeeCars executive analyst Karl Brauer said. “While many consumers aren’t interested in a long-term relationship with their car, if you can commit to one model and buy one with a long lifespan, you can save tens of thousands of dollars on your personal transportation costs.”

In all, Toyota accounted for 10 of the top 25 longest-lasting vehicles, twice as many as the next-best brand — Honda, with five models. Toyota’s luxury brand Lexus placed four models on the list.

The top 25 includes 11 SUVs, seven sedans, six pickups and one minivan: the Honda Odyssey (13%). Five of the vehicles are hybrids.

“While SUVs are the most common vehicle type, the frequency of sedans, trucks and even one minivan suggests there’s a long-lasting model to meet every consumer need,” Brauer said. “Today’s high cost for both new and used cars can be discouraging for many buyers, but if you choose wisely you can get a lot of years and miles out of your next vehicle purchase.”

Not surprisingly, Toyota and Lexus claimed the top two spots in iSeeCars’ ranking of the longest-lasting car brands, with Toyota at 17.8% brand-wide and Lexus at 12.8%. Honda (10.8%) and its luxury brand, Acura (7.2%) were the only other brands to surpass the industry average.
