Amazon Autos welcomed a new addition Monday: certified pre-owned owned vehicles from Ford.

Consumers can shop, finance and purchase Ford CPO units via Amazon Autos and take in-person delivery of the vehicle at local Ford stores.

The program has launched initially in Los Angeles, Seattle, Houston and Dallas, with plans to add other markets.

“The addition of Ford certified pre-owned vehicles to Amazon Autos represents an exciting expansion of our store, giving customers access to thousands of quality vehicles backed by Ford’s comprehensive inspection and warranty programs,” said Fan Jin, global leader of Amazon Autos, in a news release.

“By working with exceptional Ford dealers who share our commitment to customer service, we’re creating a car buying experience that combines trusted vehicle certification with the convenience Amazon is known for,” Jin said.

Jin is scheduled to speak Wednesday at Used Car Week in Las Vegas, as part of a fireside chat with Cherokee Media Group president Bill Zadeits on the recent expansions at Amazon Autos, its partnerships and what the industry can expect in the future for the marketplace.

As for the latest addition, Ford CPO includes three certification levels:

  • Gold Certified, which features a 172-point inspection and a 12-month/12,000-mile limited warranty
  • EV Certified, which includes a specialized 127-point inspection and 12-month/12,000-mile limited warranty
  • Blue Certified, which may include Ford and other brands, featuring a 90-day/4,000-mile limited warranty.

All CPO vehicles that Ford dealers sell on Amazon Autos include a thorough inspection process and include a 14-day/1,000-mile money-back guarantee via Ford Blue Advantage. Consumers can also view service history and condition reports via Amazon Autos.

“We are excited to support our dealers in launching Ford Blue Advantage vehicles (CPO) on Amazon Autos,” said Robert Kaffl, executive director of Ford U.S. sales and dealer relations, in the release.

“Amazon Autos allows Ford Dealers to offer their certified pre-owned vehicles through Amazon’s accessible digital platform, while maintaining the benefits that customers enjoy from their relationships of our Ford Dealers. It’s about delivering the best of both worlds to our customers.”

Through Amazon Autos, consumers can browse CPO inventory from participating Ford stores within 75 miles. Upon selection of the vehicle, they can secure financing, start paperwork and set up a time to pick the vehicle up at a local store.

Amazon Autos said in the release that, “Streamlining the initial shopping and financing steps frees up time at the dealership to allow dealers to focus on the valuable in-person experience.”

The company later noted that the marketplace provides dealers “a new digital channel to showcase their certified pre-owned inventory to millions of Amazon customers. Dealers maintain their essential role in the transaction, including setting pricing, vehicle delivery, service, and building ongoing customer relationships.”
