Hendrick Automotive Group has built itself quite a reputation.
The Charlotte, N.C.-based dealership group, which operates 96 locations in 13 states, is once again No. 1 in Reputation’s annual North American Automotive Rankings, which recognize the industry’s top-performing brands, dealer groups and dealerships based on their online reputation.
Hendrick led all dealership groups — public or privately owned — for the seventh consecutive year, and won by a wide margin with a reputation score of 880, well ahead of top public group Penske Automotive’s 802 and Ken Ganley Automotive (801), the No. 2 private group.
Reputation’s proprietary reputation score combines artificial intelligence analysis with publicly available data to measure performance in the categories of sentiment, visibility and engagement. Hendrick ranked first among all groups in consumer sentiment and second in visibility and engagement.
Hendrick dominated at the dealership level, with 32 of its stores ranking in Reputation’s top 100. That included the top three dealerships — Hendrick Lexus Charleston (956) and Hendrick Volvo Cars of Charleston (951) in South Carolina, and Hendrick Lexus Northlake (947.8) in Charlotte, N.C. — and nine of the top 20.
“Earning this recognition for the seventh straight year speaks directly to the dedication of our teammates,” Hendrick vice president of marketing Brian Johnson said. “Their commitment to delivering an exceptional experience for our customers continues to set the standard across the industry, and we are extremely proud to see their hard work recognized. Congratulations to each of our stores that made this year’s reputation rankings, especially Hendrick Lexus Charleston for earning the No. 1 spot.”

Lexus led the auto brand rankings with an overall score of 767, followed in the luxury category by BMW (725) and Acura (724). Among non-luxury brands, Subaru was No. 1 at 733, ahead of Nissan (727) and Honda (726).
In a news release, Reputation said its 2026 rankings “show a clear pattern: leaders are no longer managing reputation reactively” and are instead “using reputation intelligence as infrastructure for decision-making, performance improvement and competitive differentiation.”
Reputation intelligence, the company said, reflects a “fundamental shift in how trust is built and sustained,” with artificial intelligence insights now continuously interpreting how brands are understood by various platforms, algorithms and customer touchpoints to shape visibility, credibility and choice in real time.
The company said the reputation score reveals a wide-ranging reputation system, drawing data from reviews, listings, social posts and customer feedback.
“In today’s automotive market, reputation is no longer just perception — it’s infrastructure that shapes how car shoppers discover, evaluate and choose where to spend their dollars,” Reputation CEO Joe Burton said. “The brands and dealers leading our 2026 rankings are using reputation intelligence to unify shopper signals, anticipate issues before they escalate, and turn trust into revenue.”
