Wholesale prices in Canada continued to move ahead in September, and the segment showing the greatest month-over-month improvement is the full-size pickup category, according to the latest ADESA Canada Used Vehicle Price Index.

More specifically, ADESA’s data — powered by ALG Canada — noted that there was a 0.5-point upswing in the index on a month-over-month basis during September. This accounts for seasonal adjustment.

“As we closed out (the third quarter), the number of units going through auction in September remained at or near August levels, helping to provide price support to four out of the six segment classes,” officials pointed out.

Breaking it down by segment, full-size pickups moved ahead 7 percent month-over-month. Compact SUVs were next with a 3-percent gain.

“This trend is not only reflected in the resale market, but new light truck sales continue to outpace passenger car sales,” officials noted.

In fact, new truck sales for September improved 12.2 percent year-over-year, officials stated. Through the first nine months of the year, their sales have climbed 19.8 percent.

Continuing on to discuss other wholesale segments that showed improvement in September, minivan prices jumped 2 percent compared to August. Mid-compact segments saw their prices rise 1 percent.

Meanwhile, midsize SUV values fell 4 percent. There was a 1-percent drop in midsize car prices.

“Both segment classes saw increase volume levels from August,” officials explained.
