SANTA MONICA, Calif. -

With Mother’s Day coming this weekend, TrueCar.com identified the 10 most popular vehicles for the family matriarch based on 2011 data received from women with children about the cars they drive.

Half of the list came from a single brand — Honda — while Nissan followed close behind with three models included in the rundown, but no domestic unit made the group.

TrueCar’s Top 10 list included:

1. Honda CR-V
2. Nissan Altima
3. Honda Odyssey
4. Subaru Outback
5. Honda Pilot
6. Volkswagen Jetta
7. Nissan Rogue
8. Honda Accord
9. Honda Civic
10. Nissan Sentra

Analysts also shared rankings based on the amount of children in the family.

With One Child
1. Honda CR-V
2. Nissan Altima
3. Honda Rogue
4. Subaru Outback
5. Volkswagen Jetta

With Two Children
1. Honda Odyssey
2. Honda Pilot
3. Honda CR-V
4. Nissan Altima
5. Subaru Outback

With Three Children
1. Honda Odyssey
2. Honda Pilot
3. Toyota Sienna
4. Nissan Altima
5. Chrysler Town & Country

Beyond these lists, TrueCar drilled further into its family ride data and found these results:

—Odyssey ranked the highest among moms with two or more kids, thanks to its ability to hold up to eight people as well as 38.4 cubic-feet of cargo. The Pilot, which ranked fifth overall, came in second place among moms with two or more kids, also attributable to its ability to carry up to eight passengers and 18 cubic feet of cargo.

—With MSRP of $37,855 and $40,200, the Odyssey and Pilot are the two most expensive vehicles on the list.

—The two least expensive vehicles on the list were the Civic and Sentra small sedans with MSRPs of $21,445 and $19,140, making them favorites among small families with small budgets.

—Only one minivan made the overall top 10, showing that most moms still prefer to drive a sedan or SUV. However, three minivans — the Odyssey, Sienna and Town & Country — ranked among the top five most popular vehicles for moms with three or more children.

“The data shows moms prefer vehicles that combine practicality with style,”TrueCar.com senior analyst Kristen Andersson said.

“Bigger is not always better when it comes to moms’ favorite vehicles as evidenced by the lack of any Large SUVs and only one minivan in the overall top 10,” Andersson added.
