LOS ANGELES -

One lucky buyer, perhaps even a dealer, will soon be able to kick it old school — and maybe celebrate to the sounds of Huey Lewis and the News — by adding the actual Back to the Future III DeLorean Time Machine to his dealership showroom or garage.

The famed car will be up for sale at Profiles in History’s “Icons of History” auction event Dec. 15–17, with part of the proceeds going to Team Fox to help aid the Michael J. Fox Foundation. The foundation helps fund research for Parkinson’s disease, which afflicts the star of the Back to the Future franchise.

The DeLorean up for sale is one of seven that were seen on-screen during the franchise’s string of three movies. It is one of three vehicles still remaining, according to the auction. This model got its screen time in the third movie when Marty McFly was at the 1955 drive-in and goes back to 1885.

Though the "Power of Love" song featured throughout the movie franchise says "it don’t take money,’" buying this car will.  The DeLorean is likely to sell for $400,000 to $600,000, the auction said.

And don’t get your hopes up about being able to drive your date to the Enchantment Under the Sea dance with this ride. A spokesperson for the auction told Auto Remarketing that the car is operable, but it is not street legal.

Sharing some more history about the DeLorean, the car was on the Universal Studios back lot for about 14 years following filming and was at the Peterson Art Museum in Los Angeles briefly. Private owners have had it the past eight years.

The DeLorean was also on display this summer at ComicCon 2011. A $20 donation got fans the chance to be photographed with the car. Proceeds went to Team Fox.

A whole host of Back to the Future items will join the DeLorean at the December sale, including: Griff Tannen’s remote-control Pitbull hoverboard and Marty’s Mattel-brand hoverboard from the second movie, Marty’s jacket and Doc’s shirt from the first film, and much more.

All told, the sale will include more than 100 props and memorabilia items from the trilogy. Again, part of the proceeds will go to Fox’s foundation.

And for the hardcore fans of the DeLorean, Houston recently hosted the DeLorean Owners Event, which according to Jalopnik.com, was an opportunity for the DeLorean Motor Co. to debut its electric DMCEV prototype.
