RICHMOND, Va. -

On Monday CarMax officially opened the doors to its first auto superstore in Lexington, Kentucky.

The Lexington store is more than 13,900 square-feet, stocks anywhere from 250 to 350 used vehicles and employs more than 50 associates.

"We are excited about the opening of the Lexington store as we continue to resume our company growth plan," said Tom Folliard, president and chief executive officer of CarMax.

"We are proud to bring our unique car buying experience to Lexington area residents,” he added.

The new store, located at 105 Sand Lake Drive, is the second CarMax location in Kentucky; the first is in Louisville.

A grand opening preview event on Monday saw more than 300 attendees and included a “Road Rally” for charity, which featured local television personalities competing in contests such as parallel-parking and pack-the-truck events. Local participants included WTVQ-TV Lead Anchor Tom Kenny, WLEX-TV morning reporter Lee Cruise, WKYT-TV chief meteorologist T.G. Shuck and WDKY-TV anchor Marvin Bartlett.

CarMax donated $1,000 to each participant’s charity of choice, and the winner’s charity received an additional $1,000. Organizations that received donations included The Children’s Advocacy Center, Make-A-Wish Foundation of Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana and Jarrett’s Joy Cart.
