DETROIT -

As Chevrolet celebrates six decades of its most iconic sports car, the 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition made its debut on Thursday, in addition to a 60th Anniversary Package that Chevy will offer on all 2013 model-year Corvettes.

Chevy dealers will receive these models in early summer.

Meanwhile, the company will unveil both the Anniversary Package and the 427 Convertible to the public at the 41st Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Jan. 21.

“The 2013 model year will be historic for Corvette, marking its 60th Anniversary and the final year for the current ‘C6’ generation,” stated Chris Perry, vice president of global marketing and strategy for Chevrolet.

“We couldn’t think of a more fitting way to celebrate these milestones than bringing back one of the most-coveted combinations in the brand’s history — the Corvette convertible and a 427 cubic-inch engine,” Perry added.

Sharing more about the 427 Convertible, Chevy calls it the “fastest and most-capable convertible in Corvette’s history,” and said it can get from zero-to-60 miles per hour in an estimated 3.8 seconds. Its top speed is 190 mph, officials said.

The 427 Convertible and all other 2013 Corvettes will come in an optional 60th Anniversary Package. Anniversary models will feature an “Arctic White” exterior as well as a “Blue Diamond leather-wrapped interior with suede accents,” officials said, noting that the convertibles will feature a blue top.

They will also include ZR-1-style rear spoiler, along with special badging and gray-painted brake calipers. The “60th” logo will be included on the wheel center caps and steering wheel, as well as the headrests.

Customers can also choose an extra graphics package that features “Pearl Silver Blue” full-length racing stripes.

Additionally, all 2013 model-year Corvettes will have the 60th Anniversary badge on the fascias and the convertibles will include a “waterfall panel.” The badge will also be displayed on the instrument panel gauge cluster and on the sill plates.

And in a charitable endeavor, when the 427 Convertible opens to public bidding for the first time at the Barrett-Jackson event later this month, the proceeds will go to Drive to End Hunger.

The food relief program was launched by Rick Hendrick, AARP and the AARP Foundation.

Chevy and Hendrick Motorsports — including one of its top drivers, Jeff Gordon — are working together for the auction. The charitable cause is one of the sponsors for Gordon’s No. 24 stock car.
