CPO Market Shows First Decline in Six Months

After five consecutive months of gains — a span that included the best month of all time for certified pre-owned sales — the CPO market experienced a year-over-year dip for the first time since October.
During April, there were 143,137 CPO sales, according to Autodata Corp., and this marked an 8-percent decrease from April 2011.
Last month’s CPO sales total was also 18 percent softer than March’s, which was the highest sum the market has ever recorded (174,471 certified sales).
Domestics commanded 31.6 percent of the certified market, Autodata noted, as they sold 45,191 CPO units. This sales total was off 7.9 percent year-over-year.
Asian brands moved 72,439 CPO vehicles (down 6.4 percent) and took a 50.6-percent share.
There were 25,507 certified vehicles sold by European brands in April, which represented a 12.4-percent decline. Their share was at 17.8 percent.
