WASHINGTON, D.C. -

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration officials announced the Ford Focus from the current model year is the latest vehicle to be recalled.

A total of 140,310 units — the 2012 Focus that Ford manufactured from Aug. 1, 2010 through Oct. 18 — may have a missing seal in the wiring harness connector to the passenger side wiper motor.

Officials explained water or other contaminants may accumulate in the connector, resulting in an intermittent or inoperative passenger side wiper motor, reducing visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford said it will notify owners, telling them franchised dealers will inspect and as necessary, clean and properly seal the passenger side wiper motor connector. Furthermore, any inoperative wiper motors will be replaced, services that will be provided free of charge.

The automaker told NHTSA it plans to begin notification and the recall process by May 21.

Meanwhile, owners can contact Ford’s Customer Relationship Center at (866) 436-7332 and mention recall campaign No. 12S29.
