SHANGHAI -

General Motors is bringing in an executive from Volkswagen of America to be the successor to Susan Docherty as vice president of sales, marketing and aftersales for GM International Operations.

Named to the position Tuesday was Mark Barnes, who most recently served as vice president of customer experience at Volkswagen of America. GM had previously appointed Docherty to the position of president and managing director of Chevrolet Europe.

Barnes moves into the position on Tuesday of next week and will be based out of GMIO headquarters in Shanghai.

“Mark is an automotive industry veteran with more than 30 years of experience,” said Tim Lee, president of GM International Operations. “He has broad industry experience, and we are fortunate to have him joining our GMIO team.”

Sharing more details about his background, officials noted that Barnes has also served as chief operating officer at Volkswagen of America, as well as director of Chrysler’s U.S. Western Region Business Center. Additionally, his positions have also included time as vice president of national sales at Hyundai North America.
