Group 1 Expands Dealer Body by Four Stores

Group 1 Automotive’s dealership network has recently grown by four stores, as the company announced Tuesday it acquired a General Motors store in Houston to go along with three dealership openings throughout Texas and California.
Group 1 bought David Taylor Cadillac Buick GMC in Houston and is rolling out a new Volkswagen store in the San Diego market. It is also opening up a new VW store in Beaumont, Texas.
Additionally, the retailer debuted a Fiat store in Houston back in August.
Group 1 anticipates the six franchises — which are spread across the four dealerships — will likely pull in combined revenues of about $188 million each year.
Sharing more about each dealership, the David Taylor Cadillac Buick GMC dealership puts the group’s Houston store count at 12. Officials believe it will augment the group’s revenue by about $110 million each year.
Meanwhile, Group 1 is planning to open Volkswagen of Kearny Mesa — located in the San Diego area — later this week. The retailer has slated Volkswagen of Beaumont to debut by the end of next month. That store is located in east Houston.
Combined, the VW stores are expected to bring in $73 million in annual revenues for Group 1.
Lastly, the Sterling McCall Fiat in Houston that Group 1 opened in August will likely bring in revenues of $5 million each year.
Group 1 explained that it is housing the awarded franchises in existing facilities next to stores it already operates. Group 1 will adjust the facilities to meet OEM requirements and is putting in at least 25 more service bays.
“The addition of these six franchises demonstrates our ongoing efforts to grow our business while further diversifying our brand mix,” stated Earl Hesterberg, president and chief executive officer of Group 1.
“We are especially excited about increasing our partnership with Volkswagen of America following our successful acquisition of Metro Volkswagen in the Dallas market earlier this year,” he added.
