LONDON, Ontario -

Hyundai Canada’s certified pre-owned program may have just made its debut this week, but the preparation for the automaker’s Canadian CPO offering has been years in the making, Hyundai Canada remarketing manager Alex Johnston told Auto Remarketing Canada.

“Hyundai Canada has been studying the potential for a CPO program for quite some time. We’ve worked with our dealers, looked at best practices and consulted with some of the industry’s best partners,” Johnston explained.

“As part of that process, we’ve also run CPO-style programs on a less visible basis for a number of years and have developed a proven training system and rigorous certification process. Hyundai dealers are the best in the business, and they’re eager for Hyundai’s CPO program to take the next step,” he continued.

As Hyundai Canada takes that next step, it has enlisted the help of CarProof to provide vehicle history reports as well as other services.

Eligible vehicles must undergo a 120-point inspection, and each unit must include a CarProof vehicle history report.

“CarProof is pleased to be included and recognized as an integral part of Hyundai’s certified pre-owned program,” said Marty Meadows, CarProof vice president of strategic accounts and business development.

“We look forward to working with each Hyundai dealer to help promote their CPO program. With the assistance of co-branded point-of-purchase materials, CarProof has aligned our sales staff to provide ongoing training and support to assist all of our Hyundai dealers in reaping the benefits of CarProof and in turn the benefits of a well-designed CPO program,” he continued.

Sharing more about the program, Johnston pointed out that genuine Hyundai parts are used during the certification process.

The certified vehicles will be backed up with a 12-month/20,000-kilometer comprehensive limited warranty as well as one year of roadside assistance. Buyers are also given a 30-day/2,000-kilometer exchange privilege.

Moreover, there are preferred financing rates available for Hyundai’s CPO rides. Customers can receive their first oil change for free and can even elect to bump their warranty plan up to 24 months/40,000 kilometers.

“Hyundai is known for delivering value to customers, and the CPO program is no different,” Johnston said. “The combination of all these ingredients sets us apart from the competition.”

Johnston also noted that the crux of Hyundai Canada’s CPO offering is the “peace of mind” it provides.

“We know that there is no better feature than peace-of-mind, and that is the key to Hyundai’s certified pre-owned program,” he shared.

“Only the best vehicles meet the high standards we have laid out, with low mileage, an extensive multi-point inspection process and expert repairs (when needed) using only high quality, genuine Hyundai parts,” Johnston noted. “We want to provide our customers with a worry-free used-car buying experience.”

Sourcing CPO Supply

As Hyundai Canada dealers gear up for the CPO program, they face a market where used vehicles are in short supply.

While stopping short of saying that it has been challenging for Hyundai dealers to find CPO inventory, Johnston acknowledges that it has taken a bit of diligence.

Hyundai has utilized multiple channels to find eligible cars, with leasing being the top resource.

“We’re securing the inventory from a couple of channels, the biggest being our leasing program. Hyundai dealers in Canada will have the first opportunity to pick-up the returned lease vehicles, and they will make-up the bulk of our inventory,” Johnston explained.

“We’re also working with auctions across the country to organize unique sessions for Hyundai dealers to provide access to additional volume,” he continued.

“I wouldn’t say it’s been challenging, but it has been a lot of work. These two supply channels have given us the confidence to bring our CPO program to the market and our projections for future inventory are strong,” Johnston concluded.
