2 Brands Report Best July Ever for Canadian CPO Sales

Record breaking numbers and double-digit sales increases — a summary of the results from brands announcing July’s certified pre-owned sales this month.
Reporting a best July ever for CPO sales, Volkswagen of Canada sold 1,291 certified vehicles, up from 1,236 sold during the same period of last year.
“We are very pleased with the continued support from our dealers and look forward to breaking more records in the second half of this year. This was our best July ever with a record 1,291 vehicles sold giving us a 9.3 percent increase year-over-year,” said Kelley Stewart, allocation and distribution specialist at VW of Canada.
As of the end of July, the company had sold 8,650 CPO rides, up from 7,916 sold during the same period of 2012.
Luxury automaker Audi of Canada also had their best July ever this year, selling 442 units, representing a 24.5-percent increase over July 2012 (355).
Year-to-date, the company has sold 3,018 CPO vehicles, up 18.9 percent from the 2,538 sold during the same timeframe of 2012.
Jonathan Breton, manager of certified pre-owned and corporate sales, told Auto Remarketing Canada this success is connected to the automakers dealers learning to adapt to a tight used supply environment.
“This success has been realized in spite of what is still a very challenging market from an inventory supply perspective. This has been largely overcome as Audi Canada dealers have done a fantastic job in managing their portfolios for both great used vehicle and new vehicle sales results,” said Breton.
Over at Volvo of Canada, the European automaker saw 127 CPO sales this past month, up 9.5 percent from June and a 16.5-percent increase over July 2012.
As of the end of July, the company had sold 876 CPO vehicles, representing a 17.9-percent increase over 2012.
Wrapping up the European automakers is Mercedes-Benz Canada, who sold 1,176 CPO vehicles this July, a 2.3-percent increase over July 2012.
A total of 7,757 CPO units have been sold by dealerships across the country year-to-date, the company reported.
Moving on to highlight the Asian automakers, first up, Mazda sold 422 CPO vehicles in July, up from 337 sold during the same month of 2012.
Honda Canada saw a slight uptick in sales, as well, selling 1,758 units this July, up from 1,738 sold during the same period of 2012.
On the other hand, its luxury arm Acura sold 239 CPO units this past month, down from 285 sold during July 2012.
Todd Fowler, manager of used-vehicle operations at Honda Canada, commented on the results, saying, “In July, Honda sold 1,753 certified used vehicles, a 1.2 percent lift, while Acura achieved 239 Certified sales, a 16.1 percent drop both compared to last July.
“As previously mentioned, 2013 continues to present a unique challenge, as the Canadian market is operating under a tight used vehicle supply, the lowest in more than a decade. However, we have confidence our dealer networks will strive to meet this challenge head-on.”
Over at Toyota Canada, the company saw a slight drop when compared to 2012 sales. In July, the company sold 1,967 CPO vehicles, down from 2,079 sold during the same period of 2012. Year-to-date, the company has sold 12,716 certified vehicles, down from 15,271 sold in 2012 by the end of July.
