FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -

After increasing its new-vehicle retail sales by more than 21 percent in the third quarter, AutoNation wasted no time in getting the fourth quarter off to a quick start.

The retailer experienced increases across the board in new-car retail sales, as each of its three operationg segments boosted their respective numbers by double-digit percentages.

All told, AutoNation moved 20,958 retail new vehicles in October, up 13 percent year-over-year. As for its operating segments, domestic was up 10 percent with 6,396 sales; import climbed 15 percent with 9,980 sales; and premium luxury moved ahead 12 percent with 4,582 sales.

On the used-car side, the retailer shared some specifics late last month about maximizing high-mileage vehicles. As detailed here, president and chief operating officer Mike Maroone talked about AutoNation’s vehicle value outlets and where it stands in evaluating whether to roll out premium value outlets.

AutoNation is one of six retailers featured in the upcoming Dec. 1–14 print issue of Auto Remarketing, which will include a special section on the practices dealer groups use to spur used-car success and more.
