These are the cars your dealership has known since Day 1. They’re the cars your customers are looking for.
And now Carfax is letting your customers which ones they are.
The provider of vehicle history reports has introduced the Carfax Homegrown badge, which appears on eligible CARFAX reports to signal a vehicle that was sold new and received consistent care from the same dealership.
“The Carfax Homegrown badge … means this is a used car the dealer knows personally,” chief product officer Paul Nadjarian said. “These vehicles have been serviced time and time again at the same dealership, which often reflects a higher level of care and familiarity. That can make a real difference for the next owner.”
In a news release, Carfax said homegrown vehicles can offer greater long-term reliability and value, helping shoppers feel more confident in their buying, shopping, selling and trade-in process.
And that, Carfax vice president of strategic client services Bob Grill said during a workshop at Used Car Week 2025, makes them very desirable. And Carfax noted its data shows homegrown vehicles, which are typically maintained by the same technicians, command higher value and often sell more quickly.

“Everyone knows these cars,” he said. “These are the cars that don’t make the weekend. These are the cars you yell at salesmen for showing it before it’s ready. Every salesman in your building’s got a customer for this car.”
Carfax credited its Lifetime Dealers with helping develop and promote homegrown vehicles by providing comprehensive accident and service records to help buyers make more informed decisions, vehicle listings the come with a free Carfax report, making it easier for shoppers to compare options before visiting a dealership, and Carfax for Life, which allows consumers to stay connected with their preferred dealership throughout the lifetime of the vehicle.
In the release, Carfax quoted Blaine Birner, sales manager of Gillman Subaru North in Houston — a Carfax Lifetime Dealer — who said showing consumers a vehicle’s background can immediately change the energy on the floor.
“The more [the customer] understood the history, the more comfortable he became,” Birner said. “It wasn’t just about picking a car anymore — it was about feeling sure. He ended up choosing a vehicle he felt genuinely good about.
“A few months later, he came back … just for a routine service. He mentioned how helpful it had been to keep track of everything through Carfax for Life.”
