A dealership near and dear to Mercedes-Benz USA has been sold.

Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead in Atlanta, located just nine miles down Georgia 400 from the company’s U.S. headquarters in suburban Sandy Springs, has been acquired by Group 1 Automotive from Gregory and Juanita Baranco.

Group 1 said the deal, which included all dealership real estate, represents a significant portfolio addition and underscores its commitment to growth in top-tier markets.

“We are pleased to expand our longstanding partnership with Mercedes-Benz and grow our presence in the Atlanta market,” Group 1 president and CEO Daryl Kenningham said. “This acquisition aligns with our strategy of investing in high-performing dealerships, and we are proud to welcome our new team members to the Group 1 family.”

Group1 now operates 259 dealerships in the U.S. and U.K. The new addition, its 33rd Mercedes store and 29th location in the Southeastern U.S., is expected to generate $210 million in annual revenues, the company said. Group 1 has now acquired an estimated $640 million in annual revenue in 2025, after acquiring businesses generating $3.9 billion in 2024.

The Baranco family will continue to operate Mercedes-Benz of Covington in Covington, La., according to The Presidio Group, which advised on the Buckhead transaction. The advisory firm said they have also been awarded an open point for a new Audi dealership in Cumming, Ga., which will be operated by their daughter, Grené Baranco.

“Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead has been a significant part of our family and our community, and we are proud of all we have accomplished,” Juanita Baranco said. “But the time was right to evaluate our portfolio of stores and make this transition. We look forward to seeing Group 1 continue the dealership’s tradition of excellence, and we thank everyone who has supported us over the years.”

Gregory Baranco called Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead “a world-class dealership” and said Group 1 “will uphold the values that have defined our business and take great care of our employees and customers going forward.”

Presidio managing director Alex Watterson said the sale is part of a resurgence in the dealership M&A market after a slow start to 2025.

“The Presidio team expects the current robust M&A market to continue throughout the second half of 2025, led by dealership groups looking for top-tier stores in strong, business-friendly markets,” Watterson said. “Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead is widely recognized as one of the most desirable and respected dealerships in the region, and its reputation is a testament to the Baranco family’s leadership. With its commitment to excellence, Group 1 is an ideal operator for the dealership going forward.”

The dealership, which has been renamed Honda of the Bronx, gives Island Auto Group 13 locations in the New York City area.

“Honda of the Bronx has been a part of the community for more than 50 years, and we’re honored to continue that legacy,” Island Auto Group dealer principal Josh Aaronson said. “I’m proud to welcome Honda of the Bronx into the Island Auto Group family alongside my partners Jory Baron, Jason Montalvo and Scott Jacobs.”
