Early CPO Results Show More Record-Breaking for OEMs

For their respective certified pre-owned programs, Hyundai and Volkswagen both celebrated their best February ever, and Mercedes-Benz pushed its CPO sales up 26 percent.
These are just a few of the storylines that were developing in the certified market as automakers began reporting monthly CPO sales late last week.
Starting with VW, its 7,301 certified sales marked a February record, a 4.4-percent year-over-year increase and the 10th straight time VW has achieved a monthly high, according to the automaker.
VW’s year-to-date sales are up 13 percent at 14,625 units.
Fellow February record-setter Hyundai sold 5,627 CPO units last month for a 9-percent year-over-year hike. Through two months, it has moved 11,020 CPO vehicles for a 12-percent gain.
Mercedes-Benz moved 7,541 certified vehicles (up 26 percent year-over-year) and has hit 15,700 CPO sales this year (up 21.4 percent).
Audi sold 2,786 certified vehicles during the month, compared to 2,865 CPO sales in February 2012. Its sales through two months have reached 5,629 units, compared to 5,435 CPO sales in the year-ago period.
Porsche sold 768 CPO vehicles, versus 693 certified sales in February 2012.
Over at Lexus, CPO sales for the month reached 5,573 units. This compares to 5,898 certified sales a year ago. In the first two months of 2013, Lexus CPO sales have reached 10,651 vehicles, compared to 11,186 in the year-ago time frame.
BMW reported that its total used-vehicle sales (including CPO and non-certified pre-owned) reached 13,544 units, up 1.3 percent compared to the total from February 2012. The Mini brand achieved combined CPO and non-certified used sales of 1,583 units for a 15.5-percent hike.
