A luxury dealership in California is right in the wheelhouse of the Fletcher Jones Automotive Group. So when longtime owner Del Montell put Santa Monica BMW up for sale, Fletcher Jones was all too happy to make the purchase.

The Newport Beach, Calif.-based dealership group has acquired the Santa Monica store, according to Haig Partners, which represented the seller in the transaction, adding to its collection of high-end vehicle dealerships in the Golden State. It’s the company’s first BMW franchise.

In September, Fletcher Jones sold its two stores in Chicago to AutoNation, a move company president Keith May said was made to concentrate on its core markets. With its latest addition, the group now operates 16 dealership locations — nine in Southern California, four in Northern California and three in Las Vegas — as well as an Audi service center in Beverly Hills. Thirteen of those dealerships focus on luxury brands.

Santa Monica BMW was founded in 1974 and acquired by Montell in 1983. In a news release, Montell said he sold the business as he is retiring.

“I’m so pleased that my former employees and customers will be in the hands of Fletcher Jones, one of the best luxury dealers on the planet,” he said. “I congratulate them and wish them much success.”
