DEARBORN, Mich. -

Ford announced last week it is issuing a safety recall for approximately 13,100 Ford Explorer, Taurus and Lincoln MKS vehicles from the 2013 model year in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and the federalized territories.

The reason for the campaign is rear door latches may contain an improperly formed component. Ford safety communications manager Kelli Felker explained that this condition may allow the child safety lock to change from activated to deactivated without input from the operator during normal door open/close cycles.

Felker indicated in a message to Auto Remarketing that the affected vehicles were built between Nov. 29 and Dec. 12 of last year at the Chicago Assembly Plant.

“No accidents or injuries attributed to this condition have been reported,” Felker said.

Felker also mentioned franchised dealers will test both rear child safety locks and replace the latch assembly if necessary at no cost to the consumer.

According to Ford, approximately 12,500 units are in the United States and approximately 570 units are in Canada. A total of 30 vehicles are located in Mexico and nearly 100 vehicles are located in the export and growth federalized territories.

Mitsubishi Recalls More Than 3,000 Units

In other recall news, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Mitsubishi Motors North America  is recalling certain model year 2011 Outlander Sport vehicles manufactured from August 26, 2010 through March 29, 2011.

Officials said the panoramic glass roof may have been installed without primer being applied before the adhesive.

“Without primer being used, the panoramic glass roof may have reduced adhesion, possibly allowing the glass roof to detach from the vehicle, resulting in a road hazard to other vehicles,” NHTSA said.

The campaign includes a total of 3,181 units.

MMNA told NHTSA it will notify owners and franchised dealers will inspect the panoramic glass to see if primer was installed. If primer is not present, the automaker said the glass will be reinstalled.

MMNA has not yet provided a notification schedule, according to NHTSA.

In the meantime, potentially affected owners can contact MMNA at (888) 648-7820 and reference recall No. SR-13-007.
