Ford Recalls 370K Large Sedans for Steering Issue

Ford announced Friday that it is issuing a safety recall in the U.S. and Canada for approximately 370,000 large sedans — the Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Car — from the 2005 through 2011 model years.
Blue Oval officials pointed out that the recall is only for vehicles in high corrosion states and provinces for an issue with the lower intermediate steering shaft that may potentially result in loss of steering.
Approximately 355,000 units are located in the U.S. and approximately 15,000 vehicles are located in Canada.
“We are not aware of any accidents or injuries attributed to this condition,” Ford spokesperson Kelli Felker said in a message to Auto Remarketing.
Felker explained franchised dealers will inspect the vehicle, replace the lower intermediate steering shaft and, if necessary, resecure a lower steering column bearing and replace the upper intermediate steering shaft.
States included in the recall are Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Wisconsin and West Virginia.
“Customers located in other states who routinely operate their vehicles in one of these areas, or customers who have concerns regarding their steering, will also be able to have their vehicles inspected and repaired if necessary,” Felker said.
