Ford Recalls More Than 465K Units Because of 3 Different Issues

According to information sent to Auto Remarketing on Monday, Ford issued a total of three safety recalls, with the largest being for approximately 465,000 vehicles from the 2013 model year.
That particular recall was issued because a fuel delivery module in the fuel tank may leak. The vehicles included in that campaign are the 2013 Ford Explorer, Taurus, Flex, Fusion, Interceptor Utility, Interceptor Sedan, and Lincoln MKS, MKT and MKZ.
“The condition could result in customers detecting an odor of fuel, or in some cases, observe evidence of a fuel leak on the ground,” Ford spokesperson Kelli Felker said.
“While a fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire, there have been no reports of fires. We are not aware of any accidents or injuries attributed to this condition,” Felker continued.
Here are the locations of the vehicles:
—Approximately 390,000 are in the U.S. (389,151)
—Approximately 23,000 are in Canada (23,420)
—Approximately 7,600 are in Mexico (7,563)
—Approximately 35,000 are in Export and Growth Markets (1,632 in E &G Federal territories. 33,432 in E&G other)
—Approximately 2,900 are in Europe (2,902)
—Approximately 5,400 are in South America (5,438)
—Approximately 2,500 are in Asia Pacific and Africa (2,530)
Elsewhere, Ford also issued a safety recall for a total of 500 Lincoln MKZ vehicles from the 2013 model year that have an engine block heater.
The campaign originated because the insulation on the engine block heater 120V electrical cord has the potential to crack in temperatures below 20 degrees Celsius.
Felker indicated vehicles without engine block heaters are not affected.
“On 2013 Lincoln MKZ vehicles equipped with an engine block heater, customers must pull the cord out and re-stow it every time they plug in the engine block heater,” Felker said.
“On 500 of those vehicles, the insulation on the engine block heater 120v electrical cord has the potential to crack during use at temperatures below 20 degrees Celsius, which may expose the wiring,” Felker continued. “Exposed wiring increases the risk for electric shock and corrosion. While we do not have any reports of the issue occurring in the field, our data indicates the potential for it to occur and we want to remedy the issue for our customers.”
Those vehicles are located in:
—Approximately 100 are in the U.S. (107)
—Approximately 400 are in Canada (393)
Finally, Ford made a safety recall for 23 Ford Fusions from the 2013 model year for steering gears that may have been built without an internal retaining clip.
Felker said the condition could result in impaired steering, including the loss of steering control, potentially increasing the risk of a crash. She indicated potentially affected vehicles were built at Hermosillo Assembly Plant between April 19 and April 23.
“Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries attributed to this condition,” Felker said.
Ford mentioned 20 of the vehicles are in the U.S., one is in Canada and two are in Mexico. Of the 20 in the U.S., five have already been repaired, according to the automaker.
