General Motors is aiming to help used-car shoppers buy with more confidence.

The automaker said Thursday that it has expanded the standard warranty coverage on vehicles in its CarBravo platform, a GM-backed online marketplace where consumers can buy and sell used cars through participating Chevrolet, Buick and GMC dealers.

Vehicles with CarBravo certification now include warranty coverage of 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. That’s up from six months/6,000 miles. (California has different coverage and terms, GM said).

“This Bumper-to-Bumper Limited Warranty — with no deductible or added cost — sets a new standard in the used car market,” the automaker said in a news release. “That level of protection helps customers manage the total cost of ownership at a time when affordable vehicle options are at the forefront.”

CarBravo vehicles also feature 24-hour roadside assistance and courtesy transportation, the company said, and repairs under the CarBravo warranty can be conducted through the automaker’s 4,000-plus dealerships across the country.

Additionally, vehicles that are older and have higher mileage that don’t quality for CarBravo certification can potentially qualify for the BravoBudget Powertrain Limited Warranty, which is 30 days/1,000 miles.

BravoBudget vehicles would include those that are older than 10 years, but younger than 15, and/or have between 100,000-150,000 miles.

Consumers can shop for thousands of CarBravo vehicles online, in store or blend both. Inspections are included on every vehicle and the program aims to provide customers with “the information they need to make confident decisions.”
