GM Recalling 3,100 Chevy Cruzes in the US, Nearly 1,100 in Canada

WASHINGTON, D.C. –
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said General Motors is recalling certain model year 2013 and 2014 Chevrolet Cruze vehicles equipped with manual transmissions.
A total of 3,161 units manufactured between Jan. 24 through Aug. 1 are included in the campaign because the right front half shaft may fracture and separate on the affected vehicles.
“If the half shaft fractures and separates while driving, the vehicle would lose power and coast to a stop,” NHTSA said.
“If vehicle is parked without the parking brake applied the vehicle could move unexpectedly. Either condition increases the risk of a crash,” the agency continued.
GM told NHTSA it has notified owners as the campaign started earlier this month. Franchised dealers will replace the half shaft assembly free of charge.
In a note to Auto Remarketing, spokesperson Alan Adler indicated more than 500 units already have been repaired in the U.S.

Adler added that there are 1,093 affected vehicles in Canada where one incident was reported. He said about 300 vehicles have been repaired so far in Canada.
