Honda Recalling More Than 180K Late-Model Crossovers and Vans

American Honda said last week it will recall more than 180,000 units because of an issue with the brake shift interlock system.
The campaign covers approximately 128,000 Honda CR-V vehicles and 59,000 Honda Odyssey vehicles from the 2012–2013 model years and 17,500 Acura RDX vehicles from the 2013 model year in the U.S. The recall is to replace a component of the brake shift interlock system in these vehicles.
The automaker explained that in sub-freezing temperatures after initial use of the vehicle’s gear-shift mechanism, it may be possible to shift the vehicle's transmission out of the park position without depressing the brake pedal.
“No customer complaints, crashes or injuries have been reported related to this issue, which was discovered during an internal investigation,” Honda said.
The OEM stressed that it is announcing this recall to encourage owners of all affected vehicles to take their units to an authorized franchised dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from American Honda. Mailed notification to customers will be sent by the middle of next month, according to Honda.
In addition to contacting customers by mail, at that time, owners of vehicles from the affected model years can determine if their vehicles require repair by going online to www.recalls.honda.com and www.recalls.acura.com. Or they can get information by calling (800) 999-1009 for Honda owners or (800) 382-2238 for Acura owners and selecting option No. 4.
