From south Florida to the Southwest and several states in between, a few of the nation’s largest dealer groups have taken action to help safeguard the well-being of those in their communities, be it providing food and nourishment, medical care or home and family services.

Starting with Kunes Auto & RV Group, the Wisconsin-based retailer is kicking off the fifth annual Trade in Hunger campaign next week, where its employees at its 54 dealerships in four Midwestern states will aim to pack 250,000 meals for families in need.

The goal is to bring the Kunes stores together in friendly competition to pack about 5,500 meals each between June 8-17.

The retailer has partnered with PackHope for logistics and delivery of the food to local food pantries and regional food bank networks throughout Kunes’ home states of Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota.

“Our team understands that growth means nothing if we’re not strengthening the communities we call home, especially when families are struggling with food insecurity,” Delvana Holdings chief marketing officer Jennifer Myers said in a news release.

“Trade in Hunger is one of the meaningful ways we live out that commitment, and it’s very powerful watching our entire organization come together around a shared mission.”

Meantime, Rita Case, who is president and CEO of the Rick Case Automotive Group, has been recognized by the Broward Health for her donation to Broward Health Foundation, which went to cardiac care at Broward Health Medical Center.

Case was honored with a plaque at the Florida medical center’s valet station and in the lobby’s elevator bay.

While visiting, Case donated CPR Anytime Training Kits.

“I want these ladies to take home these kits for their families,” Case said in a news release. “Not only is heart disease the leading cause of death for women in the U.S., but a study by Duke University School of Medicine showed that women were 14% less likely to receive bystander CPR defibrillation than men.

“We want to turn bystanders into lifesavers by encouraging people to learn CPR, and by making CPR kits available, we can save lives.”

Broward Health CEO Shane Strum added: “Broward Health has been caring for our community for almost 90 years, and cardiac care has always been central to our care offerings. Thanks to generous donors and benefactors like Rita Case, who has been a pillar in our community for many years, we are able to make investments in cardiac services to ensure our patients have the latest technology and highest quality of care.”

Over in Arizona, AutoNation Subaru Scottsdale donated $120,000 to help fund a rebuild of the Arizona Association for Foster and Adoptive Parents community park and then gave $10,000 to help a Make-A-Wish Arizona pediatric cancer patient from Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

This was part of a day of giving last week led by the store’s general manager, Sara Bishop. During a ceremony Friday at the AZAFAP community park, the dealership presented a $120,000 check to the organization. Architectural renderings for the new park were unveiled during the event, which also includes remarks from AutoNation, Subaru and AZAFAP leaders and family-friendly fun.

AutoNation Subaru Scottsdale has donated more than $230,000 to AZAFAP in the last 12 years.

“Friday marked a meaningful milestone in our 12-year partnership with AZAFAP and our long-term commitment to driving out cancer through Make-A-Wish,” said Bishop. “From investing in the rebuild of this community park to creating a memorable camping experience for Elsa and her family, we are proud to help make a lasting impact across the Phoenix community.”

Lynn Fox-Embrey, who is treasurer of AZAFAP, said: “AutoNation Subaru Scottsdale is one of the most consistent and generous partners we have. For more than a decade, Sara and her team have shown up for our families. This investment will transform our community park into a space where our foster and adoptive families can come together for years to come.”

The day also included a camping-themed party for Elsa, a 7-year-old pediatric cancer patient, inspired by her wish to go camping with her family. The party was in celebration of the donation to Make-A-Wish Arizona.

“We are grateful to Sara and the AutoNation Subaru Scottsdale team for providing a day of joy for Elsa,” said Fran Mallace, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish Arizona. “Donations like this are essential to our mission and will help us bring her wish to life, giving Elsa the chance to reconnect with nature and make new memories with her family.”
