The founder of Urban Science is stepping away from the company’s lead role, and his successor is a very familiar face.

Jim Anderson, who founded the global automotive consultancy and technology firm in 1977, has transitioned from chief executive to the advisory role of chairman, the company announced.

The new president and CEO is longtime Urban Science veteran Tom Longo, who was promoted by the board of directors from his previous position of executive vice president of the Americas, Asia-Pacific and Europe.

In a news release, Urban Science said Longo, who has been with the company for 38 years, will be responsible for “guiding the firm’s strategy and delivering scalable solutions to help automakers and dealers, and the AdTech firms that support them, achieve clarity and cohesion in an increasingly complex and competitive market.”

Anderson retains full ownership of the company and will continue to work closely with Longo.

“At Urban Science, our science-driven approach has guided the automotive industry through its many evolutions and revolutions for nearly 50 years,” Anderson said, “and during his nearly four decades with our company, Tom Longo — alongside Urban Scientists around the world — has helped our clients overcome challenges once thought to be unsolvable.

“As we look ahead to new opportunities for our clients and our company, it’s essential we’re led by a future-facing leadership team that deeply understands the scientific rigor, client focus and insight that empower us to invent the future. After more than four decades working alongside Tom, I’m confident he and our seasoned executive team bring the expertise and leadership needed to continue to drive our company, clients and industry forward.”

In Longo’s most recent role he led the planning and execution of Urban Science’s global client delivery model, working with senior executives of top OEMs, the company said, as well as working with Urban Science leaders and teams serving the company’s dealer and AdTech clients to ensure efficiency, alignment and consistency in solutions, client support strategies and global service delivery.
