MINNEAPOLIS -

For the third year in a row, the Luther Family of Dealerships is looking to feed a whopping 1 million people through its annual Drive to Serve event.

The dealership group is teaming up with the Emergency Foodshelf Network and Stop Hunger Now to bring together 3,500 employees, customers, kids and families to package one million, highly nutritious, vitamin fortified meals in an effort to help stop world hunger.

So, how do 1 million meals get packaged?

This coming Friday through Sunday, 3,500 volunteers will assemble ingredients, weigh, seal and package food to be distributed to hungry children in developing countries, officials explained.

And the dealership group — which recently made Auto Remarketing's Best CPO Dealers in the USA list with its Luther West Side Volkswagon — is enlisting the help of the community, as well.

The Twin Cities community has been encouraged to join Luther Automotive employees and customers by signing up for a two-hour session to help package meals.

"We're not striving to beat last year's numbers, we're just dedicated to feeding more hungry people," said Barb Hilbert, chief financial officer for Luther Automotive.

And the event has a local aspect, as well. Volunteers are asked to bring non-perishable food items to donate to Emergency Foodshelf Network, Luther Automotive's local hunger relief partner for this event.

For each bag of Stop Hunger Now food packaged by volunteers, Luther Automotive will donate 25 cents to Emergency Foodshelf Network.

This year's event will be held at 6325 Sandburg Rd. Golden Valley, Minn.

Volunteer sessions run from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 12:00 to 5:00 on Sunday.
