McConnell Takes Office as New NADA Vice Chairman for 2013

Revealed late last week, NADA’s vice chairman for the new year has taken office.
Taking the position for 2013 is Forrest McConnell, III, owner of McConnell Honda and Acura in Montgomery, Ala..
Commenting on his appointment, McConnell said, "I'm honored to lead a group of entrepreneurs that drive the American economy.
It's a privilege to serve the nation's new-car and -truck dealers who are civic leaders and pillars of their communities across the country,” he added.
McConnell’s dealership website can be found here.
David W. Westcott, owner of David Westcott Buick, GMC and Suzuki in Burlington, N.C., took the helm of NADA at its annual convention and expo, along with McConnell as vice chairman.

In another piece of news to come out of NADA last week, legislation, H.R. 724, was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives that would eliminate a mandate that requires dealers to certify if a new vehicle has an emissions system.
In response to this news, Wescott said, “There are already enough documents for car and truck buyers to read at the sale of a new vehicle. Eliminating this redundant form makes sense.
Under the Clean Air Act, dealers are required to present written confirmation to the buyer that a visual inspection has been completed of a new-vehicle’s emissions system, officials said.
The bill, introduced by Reps. Bob Latta, R-Ohio, and Gary Peters, D-Mich., would eliminate this requirement.
Westcott said that documentation of the vehicle’s Clean Air Act compliance can already be found under the hood, on the Internet, in the owner’s manual and in warranty supplements, as well, and contended that further documentation is unnecessary.
