Newest Recalls by Chrysler and Honda Cover More Than 55K Units

Two separate recall campaigns by Chrysler Group and another from American Honda encompass more than 55,000 units.
The largest single recall in this latest batch is from Chrysler, which intends to recall approximately 30,000 trucks to restore tail-lamp warning function.
The campaign involves approximately 17,400 model-year 2013 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickups in the U.S.; 11,500 in Canada; 470 in Mexico and 775 in markets outside NAFTA.
Chrysler said affected customers will be contacted directly.
If a tail-lamp is not functioning properly, the automaker explained the trucks are designed to alert drivers with an instrument-panel warning light.
Chrysler franchised dealers will perform a software upgrade, at no cost to customers, to reactivate the warning light, which is a mandated safety feature. Tail-lamp function is unaffected.
“Chrysler Group is unaware of any accidents, injuries or complaints associated with this recall,” said Kristin Kolodge, Chrysler’s senior manager of product investigations and campaigns. “This proactive response reflects our ongoing commitment to regulatory compliance and customer satisfaction.”
Kolodge added that the issue was discovered by Chrysler Group engineers performing routine testing.
Meanwhile, Chrysler also plans to recall approximately 6,900 heavy-duty trucks in the U.S. and Canada to prevent front axle damage.
Following reports that two trucks had sustained such damage, Chrysler indicated that its engineers launched an investigation and discovered some trucks were subject to a condition that may cause the front prop shaft to bind or fracture, resulting in power loss.
“Chrysler Group is unaware of any related accidents or injuries,” officials said.
Dealers will replace or repair the front axles at no cost to customers, who will be notified directly.
The recall affects approximately 5,600 model-year 2012 Ram 4500 and 5500 trucks in the U.S., and an additional 1,300 in Canada.
Customers with questions or concerns about either Chrysler recall can call the automaker at (800) 853-1403.
Brake Issue Triggers Honda Recall
And in news coming from Torrance, Calif., American Honda announced it will voluntarily recall 5,239 Honda S2000 vehicles from the 2006-2007 model years and 13,113 Acura RSX vehicles from the 2006 model year in the U.S. to inspect and, if needed, replace the brake booster in these vehicles.
The OEM explained a production error may have allowed brake booster components to be produced outside of the original specifications, potentially causing decreased brake assistance over time, which could increase the risk of a crash.
“No crashes or injuries have been reported related to this issue, which was discovered through warranty claim analysis,” Honda said.
Honda is announcing this recall to encourage owners of all affected vehicles to take their vehicles to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from American Honda.
The automaker said mailed notification will be sent to customers next month.
In addition to contacting customers by mail, at that time, owners of vehicles from the affected model years can determine if their vehicles require repair by visiting www.recalls.honda.com and www.recalls.acura.com or by calling (800) 999-1009 for Honda owners or (800) 382-2238 for Acura owners, and selecting option No. 4.
