TORONTO -

As November wrapped up for the certified pre-owned market in Canada, many OEMs enjoyed record CPO sales, and one nameplate reaped the rewards of a new dealer incentive.

To help generate enthusiasm for its CPO program, Mazda Canada conducted a dealer incentive that produced a 15-percent month-over-month improvement, shared Bryan Leaitch, manager of certified pre-owned for Mazda Canada.

The company sold 351 CPO vehicles last month, which brings the OEM to 2,987 certified units sold year-to-date.

The company also launched a new financing option for CPO customers that may have spurred sales this past month.

“In addition to the (dealer) incentive, we introduced 84 month financing on our CPO vehicles to help dealers with payment sensitive customers,” Leaitch told Auto Remarketing Canada.

“Going forward, our challenge will continue to be the decrease in supply for many of our dealers. As a result, we will be launching a new training initiative with Wye Management to help improve CPO and used-vehicle operations at our CPO dealers,” he continued, noting that the OEM is working to help its dealer aquire quality used inventory.

Over at Mercedes-Benz, CPO sales achieved their best November results ever, the company reported. Mercedes-Benz reported 1,018 CPO vehicles retailed this past month, which represents an increase of 5.6 percent for the month. Year-to-date, the company has sold  13,492 certified units.

Over at Hyundai, the company’s CPO vehicle program sold 891 units for the month to bring the year-to-date total to 10,843, representing increases of 11 percent and 302 percent, respectively.

As this past month marked the best November for new-vehicle sales in Hyundai Canada history, Steve Kelleher, president and chief executive officer of Hyundai Auto Canada, expressed his enthusiasm for current sales rates when the news was revealed: “We view November sales performance as an indicator of the strength of our products and the trust that Canadians have in our brand.

“Despite announcing revised fuel consumption ratings for select vehicles on Nov. 2 and a comprehensive compensation program as a result, customers continue to choose Hyundai vehicles for a variety of reasons, including styling, quality, a long list of must-have features, accessible prices and strong fuel efficiency,” Kelleher continued.

Moving along, Volvo Canada saw a 10.1-percent CPO sales increase year-over-year this past month, with 120 units sold. The company has sold 1,091 certified vehicles so far this year, up from 1,058 during the same period last year.

“Volvo Canada’s industry-leading CPO program continues to exceed expectations by attracting buyers looking for a premium luxury vehicle experience with the peace of mind that comes with buying new,” said Emanuel Lichtinshtein, national fleet sales, CPO & remarketing manager.

Kia Canada saw a 67.4-percent increase in CPO sales year-over-year this past month. The company sold 216 certified units in November, up from 129 during the same period of 2011.

Volkswagen Canada also saw impressive certified results last month, selling 1,147 CPO units. This number is up from 939 sold during the same period last year.

The company has sold 12,839 CPO units year-to-date, which marks a 20.7-percent increase over the 10,630 CPO units sold during the same time period of 2011.

At Audi, CPO sales for November dropped year-over-year, but Audi officials were still pleased with how dealers performed in the certified market. Audi CPO sales totaled 334 units in November, down 6.7 percent  from 358 during the same month last year.

That said, year-to-date, Audi dealers have sold and delivered 3,906 vehicles, up 2.0 percent from 3,830 over the same period in 2011.

“Last month’s sales were strong given generally very lean wholesale vehicle availability. Our sales results can partially be attributed to good trade-in activity from excellent new-vehicle sales this fall, as well as a seasonally strong November. Audi Canada and it’s dealers are on pace to achieve yet another record year for CPO sales in 2012,” said Jonathan Breton, manager, certified pre-owned and corporate sales for Audi Canada.

Lastly, over at Toyota, the OEM also saw a slight month-over-month decrease in sales. Toyota Certified Used Vehicles sold 1,862 CPO united this past month, compared to 2,077 sold in November of 2011.

That said, the company is still up 5.9 percent for the year, with 23,118 certified sales year-to-date, compared to 21,814 sales for the same period last year.
