TORRANCE, Calif. -

Toyota Motor Sales USA rolled out two voluntary safety recalls this week for a mix of sedans and crossovers.

One campaign involves approximately 133,000 Toyota Highlander Hybrids from the 2006 through 2010 model years as well as Lexus RX 400h vehicles from the 2006 through 2008 model years.

The other involves approximately 102,000 Lexus vehicles, the IS 350, IS 350C, and GS 350 from the 2006 through 2011 model years.

For the recall associated with the Toyota Highlander Hybrid and Lexus RX 400h vehicles, the OEM explained transistors within the hybrid system’s inverter assembly can experience heat damage due to variations in characteristics of the transistors’ parallel circuits.

Should this occur, the automaker indicated various warning lights on the instrument panel will illuminate, and in most cases the vehicle will enter “limp home mode.”

In limited instances, the manufacturer acknowledged the hybrid system will shut down and result in the vehicle stopping while it is being driven.

For the campaign connected to the Lexus IS 350, IS 350C and GS 350 vehicles, the OEM explained bolts used to secure the variable valve timing control device can become loose, causing the vehicle to stop while being driven.

Officials said early warning for this condition can be an abnormal noise just after start-up.

“Owners of vehicles subject to these recalls will receive a notification by first class mail,” the automaker said.
