Used Sales Predictions Coming in Slightly Lower than Seen in August

As September draws to a close, the used-car sales projections are rolling in. Showing some signs of seasonality, sales projections are coming in a bit lower than seen in August.
Edmunds.com is estimating 3.01 million used cars will be sold this month — a number that constitutes a SAAR of 36.2 million, compared to 3.04 million pre-owned sales in August (SAAR of 36.8 million).
Over at TrueCar, analysts are predicting used-car sales to come in just slightly higher at 3.2 million. TrueCar is predicting the ratio of new to used sales to come in at 1-to-3 this month.
Edmunds is forecasting a SAAR for new sales of 12.7 million this month. According to Edmunds, fleet transactions will account for 17 percent of the expected new-car sales.
These newly released numbers are a bit lower than what CNW was projecting earlier in September.
CNW predicted there will be 3.66 million used sales this month. This would be a 4.2-percent improvement over last September and continues to put the used-car market on track to beat full-year 2012 figures.

The year-to-date figures mentioned in CNW’s latest Retail Automotive Summary (32.26 million) beat the year-ago figures by 3.5 percent.
