Online car marketplace Shift has created two temporary programs to help essential workers and the community at large obtain reliable transportation during the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.

The Essential Workers Program is one of those, and it will provide special discounts on vehicles for essential workers such as medical professionals, utilities operators and grocery store staff members who need personal transportation.

Shift’s Community Pricing Initiative is the second program, and it temporarily lowers prices on some inventory to help members of “the larger community” afford reliable transportation if the crisis has affected them.

Shift co-chief executive officer Toby Russell said the company recognizes that just about everyone has been adversely affected.  

“We appreciate the efforts of frontline and essential workers who bravely continue to serve our communities day in and day out,” Russell said in a news release.

Russell continued, “We are doing all we can to provide those in need of safe transportation with affordable options in a safe, no-contact way.”

Shift added that it will continue offering no-contact test drives, no-contact seller evaluations, and direct online purchasing options.

The company will also waive all shipping fees for vehicles purchased online.

Shift said it will continue delivering all of those services to the customer’s home. The company will follow antimicrobial disinfecting procedures in accordance with public health guidance.
