TORONTO, Ontario — Subaru Canada and its dealer body can now connect with shoppers directly through smartphones thanks to the rollout of a mobile version of its website tailored for use on these devices.

Users can simply punch in www.subaru.ca into a smartphone search window to connect with not only the mobile site, but to any of the nation's Subaru dealers. There is no need for a separate application.

Visitors to the mobile site can check out vehicle specifications, pricing, leasing and financing deals, used vehicles, as well as a dealer locator.

In fact, the dealer locator can find the closest Subaru store by tapping into the GPS included in most products.

As it stands, the website can be accessed via iPhone and Android mobile browsers. Officials said it will be accessible via Blackberry and Windows mobile devices "shortly."

"While mobile browser traffic only amounts to 2 percent of the overall traffic to www.subaru.ca and our dealer websites, this still represents thousands of visitors — and the number is growing every day," stated George Hamin, director of e-business and information systems for Subaru Canada.

"We want to ensure that everyone can access the crucial information they require quickly and easily, and an important part of that is to connect them quickly and easily with a local dealership," he added.

Subaru claimed that there are only two others OEMs (Nissan and Porsche) in Canada that currently offer corporate websites on mobile devices. The automaker went on to note that Porsche is the only other automaker providing dealer information via smartphones.
