MINNEAPOLIS -

Dealers on the lookout for new customers will find that the competition just got more interesting with the launch of a new shopper-tracking mobile technology.

Designed to target mobile shoppers based on their location, even when they’re at a competing dealership or service center, is the Location Targeting feature from AutoMotion Dealer App. It was released last week for the company’s iPhone and Android app technology.

Location Targeting allows a dealer to identify up to five physical locations in his area, and then automatically send special offers from his dealership to the phones of mobile shoppers who are visiting one of these five locations.

“Many of our dealer clients are targeting competitor locations, quick lube stores and stand alone service centers,” said Ben Anderson, AutoMotionTV president. “In this way dealers are able to send mobile shoppers coupons and offers precisely when the timing is right.”

The technology can identify when a potential customer is visiting a competing dealership, the company said, or is obtaining a service quote from a competing service center.

The system automatically delivers a coupon or offer to that customer’s phone, incentivizing a visit back to the dealership.

“Never before have dealers had the opportunity to deliver a message to their customers when the timing is right,” Anderson said. “We see this tool as an exciting new development for our dealer clients looking to drive more traffic to their showrooms and service centers.”

AutoMotion said the Location Targeting feature adheres to privacy laws and Apple/Google policies. It does not gather personal information from mobile shoppers, and users of dealer app are allowed to opt out of the program at any time.
